The Office of Technology Development (OTD) is RP’s research and technology transfer office. We bridge the gap between knowledge and application by facilitating information and technology transfer to industry partners. RP’s multidisciplinary applied R&D centres can work with you in many different ways, including exploiting new technologies, developing new products and streamlining processes.

We oversee and develop strategies for the management, protection, and commercialisation of intellectual property (IP) created from our research activities and promote innovation and capability development through applied research and development (R&D) projects, often in collaboration with industry or Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs).

WIRELESS STRESS MONITORING SYSTEM
Stress is not uncommon and we always perceive small amount of stress is good and acceptable. However, excessive stress increases the risk of heart attack and cardiovascular diseases in both men and women.  The traditional way of stress measurement is the saliva testing – stress hormone (cortisol) which is not easily accessible by public.

Hence, RP has developed a wireless stress monitoring system using the pulse rate variability. The underpinning technology of this system is photophlethysmography (PPG).


IPLAY – INTERACTIVE PHYSICAL LEARNING ACTIVITIES FOR THE YOUNG

 An interactive physical learning through exergaming system for purposeful play to develop motor skills & enhance holistic development for children (2-7 years old).  It Identifies motor deficiencies & track motor milestones, provides customized intervention for motor delays.

AMBIDEXTER: GAMIFIED FINE MOTOR SKILL TRAINING DEVICE FOR CHILDREN
An electromechanical physical therapy device that combines 3 motion assemblies for the hands (flexion/extension for wrist, pronation/supination for the arm and opening/closing for hand). It helps to train coordination of neurological, physiologic and biologic processes required for fine motor acquisition, promote visual-motor coordination and improve fine motor functional skills.

ASSISTIVE WHEELCHAIR FOR TRANSFER AND BATHING SYSTEM
Most hospitals and Hospice care in Singapore use the help of health care workers to transfer patients or old age people from wheelchair to the bed and vice versa.

Patients may require different levels of assistance. It is a difficult task for healthcare professional to carry patients or aged people to transfer them from one equipment to the next. Assistive Wheelchair for Transfer and Bathing system is designed to provide ease of transfer, reduce labour and improving the productivity.

PATIENT & ELDERLY FALL PREVENTION & MONITORING SYSTEM

Republic Polytechnic with Aerspace have jointly developed a cost-effective Patient & Elderly Fall Prevention & Monitoring System suitable for hospital, nursing home and home-use application.

EQUOS-LITE - THE EASY MOBILITY SOLUTION FOR WHEELCHAIR
Republic Polytechnic has developed a modular locking and locking system to convert manual wheelchair to an inexpensive powered mobility device. A prototype is available for demonstration and industry validation is currently in progress. A provisional application has been filed on the invention.

DIGITISATION OF URBAN FARMING WITH ARTIFICIAL2 INTELLIGENCE GROWTH LIGH (A2IL)
 Our solution will incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into artificial lighting (LED).  Our AI powered solution can remotely control all the light's characteristics, including spectrum, photoperiod and intensity depending on the types of crops. This analytics can result in optimizing energy costs but also improving crop’s yield. This feature will be useful for farmers new to LED lighting. Alternatively, our solution allows for farmers to formulate their own “light” recipe.    


DEVELOPMENT OF FUNCTIONAL FOOD INGREDIENTS FROM UNDERUTILIZED OKARA 
In Singapore, at least 30 tonnes of okara are generated daily and discarded as food waste or recycled as an animal feed. Despite its richness in nutrients, the reuse of okara as human food is limited due to High amount of indigestible fibre and low palatability. Republic Polytechnic has developed a cost effective method to transform okara to be functional ingredients for application in food innovation.

EASIVIM (VISUAL INVENTORY MANAGEMENT)
Automation system to trigger materials top-up quantity from a cloud platform to suppliers based on visual signal using webcams. Materials optimized and no longer require storage in warehouse, directly sent to centralized packaging, hence saving staging space & inventory.

Two types of technology concepts:
- Webcam scans AR code to detect stock to be replenished
- Webcam compares area occupied vs empty (ROI image area mapping), and calculates stock to be replenished

EASIPLANNER
EasiPlanner uses an optimisation algorithm to generate faster & better results. The planner simply uploads the required jobs into the cloud application, and the software will automatically generate the route sequence for the various vehicles within seconds – saving both time & effort. All the regular delivery constraints such as customer service time window, vehicle capacity & required service time would have been taken into consideration. If desired, the planner can also make further manual adjustments to finalise the plan.

SHOOT-STORE-SHARE

Shoot-Store-Share helps Companies whom take photos throughout their business processes in processing, storing and sharing the photos. (E.g. documenting incoming/outgoing cargo).

The operator simply take photos with a mobile phone application, add more information and the photos/data are automatically transmitted to a centralised cloud server. Time-stamp and job location are included by default. With all the information in a single location, photo/record retrieval is quick & straightforward.    

SECURE END-TO-END IOT CONNECTIVITY

Republic Polytechnic has designed and prototyped an end-to-end data integrity protocol on a testbed to secure data aggregation for Wireless Sensor network (WSN) with the goal of providing data integrity and authentication.  We adopt the idea of chameleon hash function where the smart sensors calculate a chameleon message hash periodically based on the previously reported data. This will permit the Data Management System (DMS) to verify the integrity and authenticity of the sensors’ data sent by the gateway.   

SEMANTIC DEPTH PREDICTION SYSTEM NAVIGATION SOLUTION FOR GPS DENIED ENVIRONMENT

Semantic Depth Prediction System (SDPS) eliminates the need for expensive and weighty sensors such as LIDARS which are commonly used in most indoor autonomous drones and autonomous ground vehicles (AGV). By using a monocular camera, this solution will allow indoor drones to be cheaper and smaller thus ensuring safer operations in confined indoor spaces.

SELF-CLEANING ADDITIVE FOR PAINTS AND COATINGS
Republic Polytechnic has developed a novel TiO2 additives with enforced self-cleaning efficiency intended for protective paints and coatings used for building exteriors and interiors.  The self-cleaning additive for paints and coatings has the following features:
- Actively responsive to not only UV light, but also visible light
- Easily to coated on the surface of existing and new buildings by painting or spraying
- Remove dirty particulate pollutants, cleaning building surface and reduce the frequency of maintenance


SMART COATINGS TO ENHANCED EFFICIENCY AND LOW MAINTENANCE FOR SOLAR PANELS

Solar panels are very durable but regular cleaning is required to maintain its specified output. This smart self-cleaning coating will greatly reduce cleaning cost.  The coating works by breaking down organic particles & creating a super hydrophilic surface to allow water (e.g. rain) to wash off dirt without scrubbing or scraping, keeping the coated panel surface clean automatically. It will have high transmission in addition to superior bonding on coated surface, allowing it to last well beyond the lifetime of wet solution based coatings.  Similar self-clean coating products exist in the market. However, they usually do not bond well enough or have low light transmission, making it unsuitable for use on solar panels.


NEW AIR CONDITIONING HOSE SYSTEM FOR AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE

When an aircraft is docked for maintenance work in the hanger and the power of the aircraft is turned off, it get very humid, warm and uncomfortable to work. The invention of a three-layered composite air conditioning hose helps to improve ventilation in confined spaces. The invention is environmentally friendly and cost-efficient as compared to using a conventional polyethylene hose. 


The invention provides a novel eco-friendly, mechanically stronger and injection moldable plastic sound damping panel used in wider manufacturing industries and buildings for a variety of products. Displays excellent sound absorption and transmission loss characteristics, mechanical strength, ease of processing, lightweight & modular design in order for it to be applicable for a wide range of uses particularly as a sound and vibration damper in the growing electronic and other manufacturing industries.

PLASTIC HEAT SINK MADE OF POLYMER NANOCOMPOSITE

The invention provides a cost effective injection moldable plastic heat sink with tunable thermal, electrical and mechanical properties using commonly available polymer which is used in manufacturing industries for a variety of products. Displays excellent thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, lightweight & electrical resistance in order for it to be applicable for a wide range of uses particularly as a heat sink in the growing electronics industry.

ECOSHINE - SUNLIGHT ACTIVATED LARVICIDES FOR EFFECTIVE MOSQUITO VECTOR CONTROL
Global incidence of mosquito borne diseases have grown dramatically in the last decades. Control of the mosquito vector population is still the most effective strategy due to insufficient vaccines and treatments. Laviciding is the targeting of larvae using a group of chemicals known as larvicides. Sunlight-activated larvicides address the several concerns associated with other existing larvicides.

POLYMERIC RESIN ADDITIVE PASTE FOR HIGH WETTABILITY AND PHOTOCATALYTIC EFFECT
The developed polymer resin additive paste can be incorporated into the raw materials at the manufacturing stage to enable high wettability and photocatalytic effect for achieving self-cleaning surfaces. The photocatalytic capability enables the breaking down of organic particles while the high wettability facilitates washing off of the broken down particles by the formation of water films, minimize the need for labour intensive and costly cleaning and maintenance services.  This addictive paste, currently based on polyester and may be customizable to different polymeric materials, e.g. epoxy, polyurethane etc. It has been tested according to ISO 16474-2 to show sustained high wettability and photocatalytic effect for at least 5 years.
